plant questions

Questions:

1. why are chloroplasts green?

2. what is the function of the stomata?

3. Explain light dependent reactions versus light independent
reactions? (Explain the Calvin cycle.)

4. which organisms use cellular respiration?

5. Why are rainforests important for the environment?

---Answers:

1. Because it contains a green pigment called chlorophyll.

2. To let in any raw material inside of tyhe cell.

3. That plants need light for some parts of the photosynthesis, are reactiopn that dont need light. (The enzymes in the Calvin cycle are functionally equivalent to many enzymes used in other metabolic pathways such as gluconeogenesis and the pentose phosphate pathway, but they are to be found in the chloroplast stroma instead of the cell cytoplasm, separating the reactions. They are activated in the light (which is why the name "dark reaction" is misleading), and also by products of the light-dependent reaction. These regulatory functions prevent the Calvin cycle from being respired to carbon dioxide. Energy (in the form of ATP) would be wasted in carrying out these reactions that have no net productivity.)

4. Autrophs and Heterotrophs

5. Beacause they produce a large mass of oxygen.
